Congratulations to Partick Thistle WFC who guaranteed back-to-back top-six finishes in SWPL1 with a 2-1 win over Montrose at Links Park on Sunday.

Just what the Doc ordered

The Jags fell behind to an early Jade McLaren strike before Clare Docherty’s perfectly placed shot from the edge of the box and a poacher’s finish by Cara Henderson sealed the win.

The girls worked hard for the victory and had goalkeeper Megan Cunningham to thank for a stunning fingertip save that denied Charlotte Gammie a second-half equaliser.

Clare Docherty scores a wonder-goal against Montrose

The result, coupled with Aberdeen’s 2-1 loss to Rangers, means Thistle will finish in the top-half of the table for a second consecutive season and with three league games left to play before the split.

PTWFC are in sixth place with the same number of points as Hearts and just two points behind Hibs, with the Edinburgh clubs very much in their sights.

Perfect January

The win capped an incredible January for the team. They won all four of their matches including that stunning Sky Sports Cup semi-final against the Hibees that set up their first major cup final, to be played against Rangers at Tynecastle on Sunday 24 March.

Sunday’s Women’s Scottish Cup mascots

The girls’ next match is this Sunday (4 February) at 4pm when they face Queen’s Park at Petershill in the Women’s Scottish Cup.

As sponsor of that fixture, TJF were delighted to be able to give our members the opportunity to nominate a young Jag to be a mascot for the game.

The draw took place on Sunday night with winners Iona McDonald and Emma McWilliam being selected at random – good luck girls; hopefully Iona and Emma can inspire the team to further cup glory!

Win tickets for the Women’s Scottish Cup

We also have two pairs of match tickets to give away for Sunday’s cup tie.

Enter the draw, using the link in this morning’s members’ email, by Thursday 1st February at 5pm for your chance to win a place at the game for you and a friend or family member. The winners will be notified by Friday 2nd February.

Don’t forget that all home PTWFC games are played at Petershill where kids go free. We would love to see as big a crowd there as possible on Sunday.

Let’s get right behind the Jags!

Best
