Update from the PTFC Trust trustees

Since October, the trustees of the PTFC Trust have been working closely with the Club Board to embed proper fan ownership protections at Partick Thistle. We want the Football Club not just to be fan owned but to feel like it too.

Publication of the draft Club-Trust Agreement

Today we are publishing the draft text of what will become a legally binding agreement between the Trust and the Club, to replace the autumn 2022 Memorandum of Understanding.

The “Club-Trust Agreement” is based on the equivalent documents at other fan owned clubs elsewhere in Scotland and England, and builds on extensive research carried out by The Jags Foundation. What has been negotiated blends the best of tried and tested approaches with the unique circumstances of Partick Thistle.

There are two purposes for publishing this draft agreement today. Firstly, we think it is important for the fans to understand how we envisage fan ownership working in the longer-term. Transparency is an important part of that. Secondly, we are seeking feedback from the beneficiaries of the PTFC Trust. We want to be absolutely sure we’ve got this right before it’s signed, sealed and delivered.

The consultation period

We encourage all Thistle fans to read the document in full, and welcome feedback, which can be sent to ptfctrustees@gmail.com. The consultation period runs from today until Wednesday 31st January 2024.
We hope to have the final text of the agreement in place and legally effective no later than Saturday 24th February 2024.

Trustee changes

We can also confirm that the PTFC Trust will shortly reach the final phase of the Fan Ownership Roadmap, set out at the beginning of 2023. As indicated last week, Richard Beastall has now formally resigned as a trustee. Neil Drain has also given his notice to the trustees, with a view to stepping down as a trustee on Saturday 24th February 2024.

From that point onwards, the PTFC Trust will operate with only two permanent corporate trustees: The Jags Foundation and The Jags Trust. It has been agreed that future trustees meetings will normally be attended by two representatives from each organisation.

Club Annual General Meeting

The Trustees will be at the Club’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday 11th January. If you would like us to raise any matters on your behalf, please let us know at ptfctrustees@gmail.com.
